Vehicle inspection FAQs.
Quick answers to the questions buyers ask us most. If you don’t see yours here, call dispatch at (757) 618-2938 or email dispatch@vehicleinspectors.com.
How do I order an inspection?
Orders can be placed online through /book 24 hours a day, or by phone during dispatch hours. Once your order is placed, we match you with a certified inspector in your area — most jobs are accepted within 2-4 hours on business days.
When can I have an inspection done?
All inspections are done by appointment. Inspectors coordinate directly with the seller once they accept your job. Same-day appointments are sometimes available depending on inspector coverage in your area.
Who does the inspection?
A certified technician travels to the vehicle, performs the tier’s full checklist, and completes a structured report. Inspectors are vetted, insured, and carry their own diagnostic tools. Many are ASE-certified or shop owners running independent work.
How long does the inspection take?
A Bronze inspection takes about 45 minutes on-site. Silver runs 60-75 minutes. Gold is 90 minutes plus an extended road test. You’ll have the full PDF report within 24-48 hours of the inspector leaving the seller.
What if I need to cancel the inspection?
Cancel anytime before the inspector is dispatched to the seller’s location. Cancellations after dispatch may incur a coordination fee. Before any inspector accepts, cancellation is free.
Do you check for accident, frame, or flood damage?
Yes. Frame pulls, weld marks, panel-gap inconsistencies, paint mismatch, undercarriage silt lines, and connector corrosion are all specific things our inspectors look for and document with photos.
How much does an inspection cost?
Bronze $249, Silver $349, Gold $449. Specialty inspections (RV, motorcycle, fleet, classic) are custom-quoted. Your exact price shows on /book before you confirm payment.
Do I need to be present for the inspection?
No. Most of our customers are buying out-of-state and never see the vehicle in person. That’s the whole point — we are your eyes on the car.
Will I be able to talk to the inspector?
Yes, after the report is delivered. Every vehicle is unique and almost every customer has a follow-up question. You can reach the inspector through us for any clarifications on specific findings.
What if the seller refuses the inspection?
That’s a red flag worth listening to. A seller with nothing to hide has no reason to decline a third-party inspection. If you’re denied access, let us know — in most cases we can refund the inspection fee if the inspector hasn’t already been dispatched.
Can you add specialty checks (lifted trucks, EVs, diesels)?
Yes. Specialty inspections — EV battery health, diesel regen / DPF status, lifted-truck suspension geometry, classic car originality — are available as add-ons at booking through the Specialty tier.
How do I get the report?
The completed PDF report is emailed to you within 24-48 hours of the inspection. Most reports are delivered within 24 hours; complex or specialty jobs can take up to 48.
What is in the report?
A full written assessment across all inspection categories (exterior, interior, under-hood, undercarriage, OBD-II, road test where applicable), 30-90+ photographs depending on tier, a summary of findings, and a recommendation.
Can I use your report to negotiate price?
Absolutely. That’s what most clients do. Every finding is documented with a photo and plain-English explanation, which gives you specific talking points with the seller. Most customers save multiples of the inspection fee at the negotiating table.
Is the inspection enough to replace a mechanic’s diagnostic?
No. A pre-purchase inspection is an expert visual and operational check with an OBD-II scan, but it’s not a teardown. If we find something serious, the report tells you what to ask a shop to confirm before you buy.
Can I share the report with my mechanic or lender?
Yes. The report is yours once delivered. Forward it freely to a mechanic for a second opinion, to a lender for financing, or to a shipping company if you’re having the vehicle transported.
Why not just rely on a CARFAX or AutoCheck?
History reports tell you what’s been reported. An inspection tells you what’s actually there. A car can have a clean CARFAX and still show hidden accident damage, aftermarket modifications, or mechanical problems. Use both.
What happens if no inspector claims my job?
If no certified inspector accepts your job within 72 hours, we automatically refund your payment — no phone call, no email fight. You only pay for an inspection that actually happens.
